This story is about one of the bravest women I have had the privelege to enjoy through my life, my sister-n-law, Carolyn (Turnbaugh)Caton.
Her story begins around six months ago when she had a continuous cough. She had went to her regular doctor and was prescribed antibiotics. This treatment continued for two months with no results. She was admitted to the emergency room at a local hospital, where no x-rays or ct were ever taken of her chest. She was sent to a thyroid specialist, with no results. The cough still continued.
On Thanksgiving Day, 2014, my brother rushed her to the local hospital with severe pain in her left side. Finally, an emergency room doctor took a ct scan and found a mass. She was immediately sent to another hospital for more testing. The report came back as stage 4 cancer.
Since this diagnosis my sister-n-law has gone through 5 different surgeries : 1) the mass (as big as a soccer ball) removed, plus her kidney was removed 2) 2 more masses were found on her back, so 2 more surgeries 3) she had a twisted bowel, another surgery 4) found a tumor on her skull, another surgery.
She was admitted to a nursing home for rehabilitation since she could not walk after her back surgeries. She was only at the nursing home a couple days when they found out that she had lost 3 pints of blood. She was rushed to the local hospital and given the blood. This is when the devastating news came to our family. The doctors said there were no treatments that could help her. She went home and hospice was called.
The financial burden is devastating. She will never be able to go back to work. My brother will not be able to go to work because of the care she will need.
I am asking each and everyone to look deep within your heart and donate to help them. They have been married 42 years and were sweethearts from elementary school.
They have three beautiful children and eight wonderful grandchildren.
Thank you
