Please help Prudence

We found a stray dog in Waterbury CT  on Monday Sept 7. She was bloody, unable to walk, hold her head up or close her mouth due to severe trauma to her mouth, specifically to her tongue. We called animal control, but because it was a holiday we were unable to get in contact with them. We then called the police who told us that we would have to leave the dog where it was until Tuesday morning. This was unacceptable to us due to the condition of this dog. We wrapped her in a blanket and drove her to Cheshire animal hospital, hoping she would not cross over the rainbow bridge on the way. When we arrived at the hospital , we were told that this pup, who was clinging to life, would not be seen unless we took full financial responsibility for the bill because she was a stray. Of course we agreed and they began to work on her. The doctors have been kind, although they were unsure of what her prognosis was going to be. They suggested she be cleaned up, checked for any broken bones and given fluids and anti inflammatory medication just in case there was swelling on the brain.  They told us to go home and wait, they said the next 24 hrs will determine whether little  Prudence (name we gave her) has any chance of survival.  Not knowing if she would make it through the night, we were relieved when the vet called in the morning and said that our little Prudence, who was left to die in the street, was a fighter and was showing some signs of improvement. She was able to hold her head up and pull herself up, but was still having a hard time walking. Her tongue was also damaged, they thought she may need a feeding tube to get nutrients while we wait for the tongue to heal. The doctors are not really sure what happened to Prudence, we pray that some sub human did not intentionally harm this dog and dump her to die alone. Prudence is still in the hospital, she is showing signs of improvement, she is slowly starting to walk; she is wobbly but is determined to walk again. She is starting to eat soft foods but her tongue is still really damaged. So far, we have paid $1970, we are anticipating that she will remain hospitalized for the next couple of days. All we want is for Prudence to have the best possible chance to live, enjoy her life, and hopefully forget the horror she has endured. Any donation will go towards the best care possible for this little angel.
