The Langtang Nepal Karma Fund

Donation protected
Hello and Namaste from the Karmu Tamang McLain Family,
The catastrophic Nepal earthquake on April 25, 2015 brought destruction, death and miracles of survival to the Tamang people in the remote Langtang Valley just north of the capital Kathmandu. This fund is dedicated to helping Karmu's large related families who have lost loved ones, homes and the ability to support themselves. These mountain people are in urgent need of our assistance.

In 1971 Karmu's brother, the late Renzin Dorje Lama, pioneered the tourist industry in the Langtang Valley with the very first trekking lodge called Village View. Since then the extended Tamang Jangba family has dedicated two generations of effort to expand the tourist industry in Langtang National Park. Many thousands have enjoyed their hospitality and kindness of spirit.

The massive earthquake badly damaged many of the lodges and homes along the valley trail. It triggered an avalanche that buried the village of Langtang, killing hundreds of residents. Nearby Kyanjin Gompa was devastated, forcing villagers to live outside under tarps in foul weather awaiting evacuation. Karmu's  mountain families need assistance for months if not years, since most or all of their belongings and valuables were buried or destroyed along with their livelihoods!

Fund Objectives:
The fund's goal is to disburse the first $30,000 collected toward basic necessities for Karmu's immediate family members in need of temporary housing, medical attention, food and clothing over the next several months. The next approximately $30,000 will be allocated for the enormous task of rebuilding homes, lodges and trails in Kyanjin Gompa their remaining village in the upper Langtang Valley. The next $15,000 will be seed money for restarting their hospitality busnesses.

Funds from the donations account will be periodically released to the Fund's Administrator in Nepal, Mr. Lhakpa Tamang Jangba, for disbursement to Tamang families. The fund organizers, Karmu and Patrick McLain will provide regular updates and postings including benchmarks met and future needs and goals. Click the "SHOW ALL" icon above for more information. Input from contributors is welcomed. The fund website will reflect all deposits by name, date and amount, unless otherwise requested.
