Whats out there for tuning software currently?
HorsePower Tuner
Pros
-Versatile
-Can do most PCMs
-Very powerful
Cons
-EXPENSIVE
-Can be hard to understand for some
-Odd layouts in some places
-Did I mention expensive?
-Can't do as many tables as DHP/Tiny Tuner
-.HPT extension on all files - no easy way to get a .BIN file
-Credits
DHP
Pros
-Lots of tables
-Cheaper
-Looks confusing to some
Cons
-No longer being supported in full (DarkHorizon does some support for it)
-Hard to find
-Some report issues on Win7+
For a little side project I decided to see if I could fix these issues in both programs and have a little fun doing it. I have learned a lot about GM V6 PCMs though this project so at least if nothing comes out of it I have more knowledge on the PCMs.
What is ATuner?
ATuner is a piece of software I am currently in the process of creating that will solve many of the woes with the current software sets. I am desgning it with three things in in mind:
Speed
Easy to use GUI
Low cost
Will it ever be done?
I am currently working toward my degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and have a life, also I have never written tuning software nor am I going to act like I know all there is to know about tuning software. I am sure people on this forum know way more than me about the PCMs and PCM communication (DarkHorizon, Bill, Greg all come to mind) and this project is just an adventure for fun. So, will it ever be done? I have no idea.
TL;DR: I Don't know. Now go read it.
Why
One cold South Dakota night, I had little homework and was not in the mood to play video games, sooo I started thinking and researching and throwing code around and now were here.
This all sounds fine and dandy but whats it going to cost? $500?!
I have no idea. In an ideal world in my head I would give it away free to spur on progress in our platform, but until I am finished with the software and think im ready to actually give it to the wild I won't know on a cost.
Is it actually going to be better than HPT or DHP?!
Well, thats for the user to decide. I wrote it, Im biased and I obviously know my way around it better than I do the other programs BECAUSE I WROTE IT! So, when its released people can tell me: I hate it. or I love it. and Ill take the criticism in stride.
Wait, you said Cheap. Why are you asking for money?
The framework that ATuner will be written on top of is not cheap. Around $1000 for the liecense to use it, which means in order to continue this project we need to raise around 1200 bucks to cover the GoFundMe fees and the cost of the license. If you want to see this project live and move forward, dontate if 120 people give 10 bucks each it'll work out. Dont eat out for one meal and you paid for the donation. If you can't, thanks for being here and please support the project over on GrandPrixForums!
