My dearest friend Olga, one of the bravest and strongest women I have ever known, has been diagnosed with cancer for the second time. In 2008, Olga received her first diagnosis of cancer, thyroid cancer, which resulted in her having surgery, radioactive iodine treatments and a paralyzed vocal cord, which then led to further surgery. The radioactive iodine treatments required her to remain in isolation for days at a time, when her youngest daughter was only 2 years old. With the direct support of her inner circle of friends and family, Olga made it through and was in remission for 6 years. We were celebrating and so thankful that the worst had passed.
You can only imagine her devastation, and that of her family and closest friends, when she received the diagnosis of a triple positive (progesterone, estrogen & HER2 positive) breast cancer in August 2014. This is when her fight really begins…again. Olga has gone through 6 rounds of chemo and recently had surgery which resulted in a major set-back where all the tumor wasn’t removed and another round of surgery is now needed.
The most immediate treatment Olga will endure will continue for a full year and will still include radiation and chemo treatments, physical therapy and not to mention medication for years to come. Through this all, incredible Olga has held her ground, and was recently presented with the Golden Award at Nothnagle Realtors for her stellar performance. This only shows her level of determination and amazing spirit.
Olga continues to work as much as possible, and if you know her like I do, know she is extremely modest and would never ask for additional assistance. However, the many months of chemo treatments and multiple surgeries have been extremely challenging and affected her ability to maintain her business level. Everything Olga's family has gone through has taken its toll financially and all the medical expenses continue to climb.
