My Dog Rusty Roo
Donation protected
Rusty Roo is facing a heart ailment and is in need of medication and care. He is currently going in for xrays, sonograms, oxygen, etc. His vet bills are a bit expensive for me to handle alone. Any small donation will help out a lot!
Our Story:
My dad passed away several months ago, right before christmas. Our home, and lives, felt empty.
Months later, my friend contacted me about an adoption event taking place in manhattan for march madness. At a mere $16 dollars for adoption, I thought I'd give it a shot.
Looking around the agency, I saw all sorts of dogs. A lot of them were barking and jumping around with endless energy. As I ventured further in, I noticed there was one cage in the back. It looked empty... but then I saw it- a small bushy tail poking out from under a plush bed.
Out of curiosity, I asked to meet this so called Rusty Roo. He was different from the rest. He didn't bark, he didn't jump. It was as if he wanted nothing to do with the event at all.
I kneeled down and beckoned him over at our meet 'n greet. The moment our eyes met and he rolled over for that tummy rub, I fell in love.
I must say, it was the best 16 bucks I have ever spent in my life.
When he was well settled at home, I looked up his name online. Rusty Roo is a pretty odd name, adorable none the less. What I ended up finding shocked me:
His images popped up first on my Google search. "Help Rusty Roo. In danger at a local kill shelter in brooklyn." There were facebook posts concerning his position as well. People pledged to get him out of there. That's when Best Friends Animal Society pulled him out and brought him up for adoption.
The only thing that I could find out about him is that his owners fell ill and were unable to care for him anymore. Looking at how well kept he was, I could tell they loved him dearly.
So there you have it, Rusty Roo- a dog who lost his owner of 10 years, and me- a girl who lost her father of 20. We both suffered great losses. I feel like I have a special connection to him. Despite being an elder dog, he's found a special place in my heart. I did not want to see him live out the rest of his days in a shelter.
Life is so much brighter and happier with Rusty Roo in it. He's livened up our home and brought us nothing but laughter and joy. He's dragged me out of bed on days when I felt like giving up on life and comforted me at times when I was depressed.
Thank you so much for taking your time to read this and have a great day.
