Terminally ill mothers wedding

Donation protected
We are looking to raise £3000 for the wedding and £3000 for Cancer Research.

Fiona has not had the best of luck with her health. Back in 2011 at the age of 47 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a huge shock to everyone, especially her mother Anne and her two daughters Anwen & Eirian. Fiona then spent three years fighting a long and painful battle with her cancer. By the end of 2013 it seemed that she had won her battle and she began the process of trying to return to normal life.

Unfortunately in 2015 she began to feel ill again, and she knew something wasn’t right. She spent week after week, month after month being taken back and forth to the doctors and the hospital as it became apparent that although she had won the battle with her original cancer, the war was far from over.

In November 2015, she got the diagnosis that she and all the family had been dreading – the cancer had spread to her lungs. Worse than this, she was also told that this time it was terminal and that she only had months to live. There was nothing more that the doctors could do for her. It took a few days for the tragic news to sink in, and once over the initial shock and fear over the prognosis, Fiona became strong and determined to make the most out of the little time she had left. She has brought us to tears with her tremendous courage and good spirit in the face of such adversity and is an inspiration to us all. Being only 51 years old, brave does not even come close to describing her!

She had three final wishes – firstly to get the whole family together for one last Christmas. This might not sound that big a deal but with less than four weeks until Christmas, and a family that is spread between places such as North Wales, Scotland, Spain and Florida it was a big ask. Anwen’s partner Mark runs an inn in the area so with a place to fit everyone and a huge amount of organisation and people’s time, sure enough the whole family was indeed together for Christmas day.

Her second final wish is to marry her long time partner Dave. They have been together for 18 years and have always dreamed on a perfect wedding but never quite got around to it. The problem was now that time was very short. Funds were also very low as Fiona had been unable to work for years now due to her battle with the cancer, and Dave has also been unable to work as he spends 24 hours a day looking after and caring for Fiona. For this reason, Anwen approached a charitable foundation that specialised in providing funding and support for the terminally ill to get married. The application went in in early January 2016 and all fingers were crossed that it would be approved. Sadly the application was declined on 11th Feb 2016 though she was told that she could reapply in six weeks time. Unfortunately Fiona’s health has already deteriorated to such an extent that she is on oxygen 24 hours a day and she really doesn’t want to wait any longer to marry Dave so that she can still enjoy the day before the illness takes all her strength away.

This is where this page comes in. We would like to give Fiona and Dave the wedding they so really want. What we are short of though is funds to make it happen. We would also like to help future cancer suffers by making a donation to Cancer Research in the hope that it might help to finally find a cure to this wretched disease.  Half of what we raise on this campaign will go towards the costs of Fiona and Daves wedding, and the other half will be donated to Cancer Research.

It’s never easy to ask people for money and for those of you who know Fiona will know that it has been a very humbling experience to have to reach out like this. We are asking you to help us make one of Fiona’s final wishes come true.

Please help us in any way you can. Time is so sadly of the essence so please find it in your hearts to help us.

PS – Any of you wondering what her third final wish is? Well her youngest daughter, Eirian's due date is today and Fiona is hoping to meet her latest grandson or granddaughter very soon.

All our best to you, from Fiona, Dave, Anwen, Mark, Eirian and Luc.
