Callista's Service Trip

Hello!
For those of you who do not know, my name is Callista Ryan and I want to share with you one of my goals. Ever since I was younger, I’ve always wanted to volunteer on a service trip. I was approached with the opportunity to go on a youth service trip to work in a rural community in China over the summer recently and I decided it was time to make that dream a reality!
I am a very active teen involved with Air Cadets, Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Squamish Youth Resource Centre and Squamish Teen Action and Advisory Group (TAAG). Throughout the community of Squamish, I have volunteered through these programs and am also involved throughout my school in jazz band, musical theatre/theatre production, outdoor leadership, diversity club and play for the rugby team. These past few years have been exciting for me with my enthusiasm for participating in all of these activities. So now I want to take the next step and take my community values global.
The Trip:
Over the course of the trip I will be working in a rural community where schools are underfunded, clean water is inaccessible gender inequality is a devastating factor on their lives. I will be volunteering to help rebuild schools, clean a water system and work with young children who live in these communities.
On this journey, I hope to empower myself and others to take that extra step and make someone’s life better. I’m willing to work hard to make a difference and take my leadership skills and challenge them in this situation.
The Details:
The trip program is run through Free the Children - Me to We. The cost is $5395 (including airfare, bottled water, healthy food and supervision from trained volunteers). I have already saved up $750 from my work savings to pay for the trip deposit. However, I still need to raise just over $5,000 to pay for visas, vaccinations and travel insurance. I will be doing fundraiser events, and all of the money raised from each event will be uploaded onto the campaign as well!
