The plan is to help our friend Ashley and her 3 kids attend their father's military graduation by raising money for plane tickets (currently it's about $600 per ticket). The graduation is in San Antonio, Texas on May 30th, so I wil have to move kind of quick on this. Their dad Shawn Sullivan, will be graduating from USAF Basic Military Training after joining the NH ANG this year to fulfill his lifelong dream of serving our country. He also serves as a local corrections officer full-time.
I know full well (being a parent myself), that it is not cheap to fly the whole family anywhere. If I had the money on hand myself, I would have purchased the tickets already for them. I think the sacrifice that this family is making should warrant a small one on our parts.
About 15 yrs ago, I was fortunate enough to have my parents be able to fly down to Texas to see my graduation. If I had kids at that juncture in my life, I would have done anything to have them be able to see me at that proud moment. Hopefully we can help make this happen for them. I am not sure if they know of my intentions yet, but I plan to help them out. I think that would be a cool surprise for Shawn. Besides, what a better way to welcome them into my squadron's 260th ATCS family, and the military community altogether. We are proud of the entire family!
