The short story: I need your help in buidling a business that will empower and educate others to heal themselves. I will do this by hosting workshops, classes, and meeting with people individually to develop a holistic profile specific to each person.
I will to create more herbal formulations that will offer individuals even more healing potential, and purely natural options that can be as or even more effective than allopathic medical offerings for pain and more.
The whole story: Life, I've learned, is about connections. The connections we make with each other and with the world around us. Healing, I've learned, is also about connections - the connections we make between our mind, our bodies, and our world.
My story begins in October 2011. I was having the most awful day - I litterally had a pain in my neck. I was at work, nearly in tears because I could hardly keep my head up, and the only position I could find any comfort in was with my head on my desk.
The next day, I went to see my doctor, who sent me to a few labs and a specialist to figure out what was going on. In the meantime, she gave me a perscription for oxycodone. A week later, she called me with the results of all my tests and lab work. They found nothing. "Perhaps you pulled a muscle? Give it a week, take the meds. If you're still in pain, call me back."
A week later, I was still in pain. The only relief I had was when I went home and took the pain pills. I called the doctor back and she gave me another perscription, this time for a medication for tension headaches and a muscle relaxer.
A year later, I was still in pain.
To make matters worse, I was rear-ended in a three-vehicle collision right after leaving a Rolfing therapy session. This accident would begin a series of physical therapy sessions - and even more drugs.
All that medicine, chiropractors, massages, Reiki, Rolfing, healers, and accupuncturists could offer me were brief moments of relief. I was tired - tired of pain pills, muscle relaxers, and 800 mg of Ibuprophen as a daily part of my diet. I was sick, and not one person could help me.
So I decided to try to help myself. I began researching alternative medications, and the more I read, spoke with people, and listened to my inner guidance, the more I was drawn to herbal medicine.
With some basic research, I started experimenting with healing teas - one to allieviate congestion symptoms, another to help with stress, one for women's health, and so on. At some point (I'm not sure when), I decided to try making a pain compound - something I could use topically to replace the IcyHot oinment I was using daily. There were so many pain products I had become accustomed to using and I had no real idea what the ingredients were or how they could potentially damage my cells, nerves, etc.
So, with more research and more experiments, I created a salve for pain - Moki's Magic Salve, to be exact. I began giving it to my family and friends to try, never really thinking much about it and mainly using it for myself. "Moki, you know, that stuff you make works." I remember my dad saying this to me, and me realizing, Wow, this stuff really works!
Since then, I have made Moki's Magic Salve a few more times and continue to receive the most sincere, wonderful feedback from people who use it. This encourages me to try new formulations and further my learning as an herbalist.
This is where I need your help. It is not easy to get a healing business off the ground, and that is what I ultimately would love to do - create herbal formulations for everyone to be healed.
