Medical First Responder

Donation protected
My name is Ray Woolley and I am currently an Ambulance Technician and also volunteer in my spare time as part of our local Community First Responder Scheme.

As a Community First Responder, I am currently only permitted to drive within the speed limits and in accordance to the highway code as other road users do. Other road users are also not required to move over for us as with Ambulance and Police, etc. A Community First Responder doesn't carry drugs with them. This means that whilst they are already on scene with a patient, they cannot administer drugs.

So....I am now looking at starting up as a Medical First Responder within the Castle Donington community. Being an MFR would enable me to get to medical emergencies that little bit faster as I am fully blue light trained as part of my job and will have blue lights fitted to my own personal car.

It would also mean that with my extended medical knowledge and skills, I can be dispatched and on scene, fully kitted with a defibrillator and other various equipment and be able to administer certain life saving drugs within minutes of your call, whilst an Ambulance is on its way to you.

With Castle Donington becoming an ever growing community with more houses being built and local industries increasing, I feel becoming a Medical First Responder is a very much needed resource. We are situated on the Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire border, which often means that we wait longer for medical assistance as the nearest available resource can be quite a distance away. I can cut this time to within minutes as and when I am on call around my regular job.

To enable this to happen and for me to have blue lights and a siren fitted to my own personal car for this purpose...i will need to raise these funds myself. The funds will be not only be used to purchase the blue lights, siren, defibrillator and any other equipment required; but also for a professional installation of the blue lights and siren, which would be carried out by a reputable company.

Medical First Responders are active all over the East Midlands and have now grown in numbers. I would like to put Castle Donington on the map as having one of these in our community, with the view to being up and running as soon as possible or at least within the next 2 months.
