Connolly - ACH Paediatric Neurology

First of all, thank you for taking the time to visit this page and for considering a donation.
We are starting this campaign to raise funds for donation to the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation (ACHF), specifically the areas of neurosciences and research.
Our 10 year old son Connolly has recently been diagnosed with hydrocephalus (excess fluid on the brain), syringomyelia (fluid-filled cavity within the spinal cord) and doctors are quite certain he also has neurofibromatosis (NF) type 1 .
The doctors have said that Connolly is a remarkable young boy as he shows no symptoms at all for a child with hydrocephalus or syringomyelia.
All of this was found by accident when Connolly joined one of his triplet brothers in a concussion research study and had to have an MRI done as part of the study. The MRI showed excess fluid around both Connolly's brain and his spine. The NF is something we have suspected since birth as Connolly has cafe au lait spots all over his body, several of which are large in size, a symptom of NF.
It is very likely that some form of surgery (either on the brain, on the spine, or both) will be required to release the fluid around Connolly's brain and spine. We hope to know soon what the options will be.
The hardest part of all of this for Connolly is he can no longer play the sport he loves more than anything - hockey. He cannot risk getting hit in the head or spine so he must avoid all contact sports for the foreseeable future.
We are so blessed to live in a country and province where most if not all of our medical expenses will be covered by our health care benefits. So far the only expense we have incurred has been parking for each of the appointments we have attended.
As noted above, all donations given here will go to the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation to help them continue to provide excellent care to Connolly and children like him and to help the research for hyrdocephalus, syringomyelia and neurofibromatosis.
All donations are appreciated and welcome. When we present a cheque to the ACHF, we will provide a list of those who donated so that the Foundation knows how much their work is needed and appreciated, and how much Connolly is loved :)
