Marifer needs Lung Transplant

Maria Fernanda Flores Gutierrez, know to all of us that love her as “Marifer”, is 11 years old and suffering with Cystic Fibrosis (CF), a life-threatening genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system. At this point CF has affected these parts of Marifer’s body and is currently at the terminal phase of this disease in her lungs, and will not survive without a double Lung Transplant.
Marifer has been battling this disease for the past 11 years. This February 2014 she had a relapse and was admitted to the hospital for treatment. After months of continued treatments she is currently on BiPAP, or bi-level positive airway pressure, a type of noninvasive ventilation that helps keep the upper airways of the lungs open by providing a flow of air delivered through a face mask daily. In addition the severity of the disease in Marifer’s lungs, is the high level of carbon dioxide in the blood gases, and shows that her lungs have difficulty exhaling carbon dioxide due to the CF disease.
Marifer is under a large amount of medications for her lungs and is unable to have a normal childhood. To past her time while in the hospital she loves to draw and keep up with her family and friends on Facebook and chatting. Marifer dreams of owning a Giant Pyrenees, one day becoming a veterinarian, and having her own clinic.
Marifer is in critical need of a double lung transplant and needs your help. She doesn’t have any medical insurance and has exhausted every bit of income and there is no savings. Presently the family (Dad, Mom, and Sister -9yrs old) is living with Marifer at the hospital.
Monetary donations are needed to help; the transplant alone is approximately $140,000, plus additional medical bills, travel and living expenses. Marifer and her family appreciate any amount that you can contribute, as no amount is too small. To those of you who can, thank you for offering your help. Esta enfermedad en este momento ha afectado a estas partes del cuerpo de Marifer y se encuentra actualmente en la fase terminal de la enfermedad en sus pulmones, y no sobrevivirá sin un doble trasplante de pulmón.
Marifer ha estado luchando contra esta enfermedad durante los últimos 11 años. Este febrero 2014 tuvo una recaída y fue admitida en el hospital para recibir tratamiento. Actualmente, ella debe usar presión de aire positiva (BiPAP) con una máscara en su cara para apoyar a sus pulmones diaria. Más evidencias de la severidad de la enfermedad del pulmón de Marifer, es el alto nivel de dióxido de carbono en los gases de la sangre, y muestra que sus pulmones tienen dificultad para exhalar dióxido de carbono debido a la enfermedad FQ.

Se necesitan donaciones monetarias para ayudarla; el costo del trasplante es de aproximadamente $140,000 dólares, más los gastos adicionales gastos médicos, de viaje y estancia. Marifer y su familia aprecian cualquier cantidad que usted puede contribuir, como ninguna cantidad es demasiado pequeña.
