Mabel to State Mock Trial

Mabel School is a Title 1 school in Watauga county, found in the mountains of Western North Carolina. In the Fall of 2017 our Academically and Intellectually Gifted students started off the year preparing for a Mock Trial experience.
Mabel School’s team not only won their local competition, but scored high enough that they will be representing all of Educational District 7 at the state competition for North Carolina. District 7 is composed of multiple counties (Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Hickory, McDowell, Mitchell, Newton-Conover, Watauga, Wilkes, Yancey).
Though this is an amazing opportunity for our students- we still must transport our students to Durham for the state competition. The tournament will kindly cover most of our meals and hotel rooms, but the estimated fuel cost for taking a school activity bus will be over $700.00.
Our estimated driving will be 366 miles, at a cost of $2.00 per mile, for a fuel cost of $732.00. All teachers and drivers are volunteering their time but the county currently is not contributing funds. Go Fund Me will deduct 7.9% for processing and use of the platform.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for our students and we would be extreamly grateful for anything you can give to help us make it to the Durham County Courthouse!
