Remember the Battle of Britain!

We are passionate about bringing the history of the Battle of Britain to an online generation, many of whom would seem to have never heard of these heroic few months that changed the course of history.

This is our second year of our online Battle of Britain history campaign and many are very grateful for the huge amounts of time, effort and money we have put in to our tweets, blogs and podcasts.

Sadly we are desperately out of pocket as a result but are still committed to continuing our work.

Any help you can give to help us  would be enormously helpful. We have put a very low target because literally any amout would help us.

The Battle of Britain changed the shape of British and world history by stopping Hitler and Nazi Germany occupying the whole of Western Europe.

The American journalist Ralph Ingersoll thought the Battle of Britain was as important in history as Waterloo or Gettysburg.

The Battle of Britain is not taught in schools and sadly it is slipping away from living memory. In the 1960s and 70s there was an abundance of excellent books telling the story of the Battle, sadly many of these are no longer in print and there are few quality books to replace them.

At Battle of Britain 1940 we are using our social media skills and writing experience to try and bring the Battle of Britain alive for the online generation.

Centuries ago, military leaders that saved England from invasion were rewarded with wealth and land and fame. For saving England from Nazi Germany, our leaders were sacked within months of their victory and have been been largely forgotten.

We are running a TWITTER account @BofB1940  where we tweet a real time 24/7 news feed of all the aircraft crashes, where they crashed and what happened to the pilots/crew, which ships were attacked and which cities bombed. Our idea is that by presenting historic news in the same form that current 24/7 news is presented, it may make the Battle of Britain easier to imagine for the online generation.

We have a supporting BLOG  that describes aspects of the Battle in eye-catching, easy to read and relatively short articles so it is easier to digest by online readers. Again our idea is to present history using a modern style of presentation.

We have a PODCAST  for each day of the Battle of Britain describing all the action that happened in that day. Our idea is that it is like listening to a radio news broadcast. It really brings home the violence of the period listening to just how often pilots crashed and how many lost their lives day after day.

If you like what we do,

if you think it's important to raise the profile of the Battle of Britain,

if you think what we are doing is helpful in bringing important history to a new generation in an appealing way...

...we are spending our dwindling resources on paying for the monthly bills that allow us to provide our services, and we spend enormous numbers of man-hours to keep it all online

...please make any donation to help us continue our work.

Churchill said, "If the British Empire [were] to last a thousand years, men would still say, this was their finest hour."

It is not even a century and a recent survey has shown that most people have forgotten it already.

Help us continue to bring the history of the Battle of Britain to life for the online generation. Let the heroes from both sides live on.
