78 yr homeless Vet In A Home Almost

Donation protected
Today this campaign reached across the ocean. Pam, John's sister has donated and will continue to do so for a couple of months. Pam doesn't use the internet, but was contacted by her family!

God bless them all!

And here's the update! After surgeries and months in hospital/rehab, June has moved to the country.

Her daughter Gail Bernstein has found a place for John to move into - right across the street from the long term care facility where June now resides.

These two pals can see each other's windows!

Oh Thank God!

"He always was putting my needs in front of his even tho he himself has a severe bad knee and limp. Over the last 2 1/2 years I have had the joy of knowing John. I am 76,  Medicare, disabled pensioner that had the good fortune of having John in my life ."

Says June, a pensioner praying that her former companion and caretaker will get help.

This Marine Corps Vet  has lived in his truck (which has a small cab he can sleep in) on not-so-safe urban streets and in weather extremes, for one year now.

Senior housing in this city has a waiting list in the tens of thousands.

John Cox , 78, is trapped outside of the system.

But Gail has found a place where he can live under a roof and also plug into the system.

He had supported himself for many years by creating and selling paintings and fine jewelry until a degenerative condition, Dupuytren's Contracture, struck. This left him with curled inflexible fingers.

In this new home across from Juner and near Gail, John will have some creative space and has expressed wonder that he may be able to make jewelry again.

"I don't have much beside my S.S., but I would be willing to donate $15.00 a mo to helping this deserving man put a roof over his head. If any one can help it would be a blessing from God".

Said by "Juner". Lela June Schwark who is more than happy to support this campaign.

Previously he was provided with a room and home with her family (Gail and her husband) that had to move away, over a year ago. The photo above is of his 75th birthday in that home.

While he lived with them he took it upon himself to do errands, cook family meals, and generally pitch in as well as provide help and companionship for June ("Juner"),  the homeowner's mother - a cancer, heart and COPD patient.

Even after eventual corrective surgery for the condition, he never recovered the full use of his hands.

John found work in construction and weathered injuries that didn't stop him. However, a severe childhood injury revisited - resulting in osteoarthritis - and that led to his enforced retirement a few years ago.

Having lived the artist's life, John knows how to make every cent count.

He was ready to move -- but a $1200 truck repair interrupted his plans.

Right now, just $500.00 would give him what he needs to move, and get the utilities on.

Please donate if you can (even the smallest amount makes a difference) and/or share so others who might be so inclined, can help.
