My Eviction Won't Get Me Down

Donation protected
I'm being evicted....... WAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
But I'm dusting myself off, and taking a cue from Lucy. Yes, I'm hitting the bottle.... of Vitameatavegamin and rising to the challenge

But I need your help.

After 45 years of being a member of multiple San Francisco communities- an artist, a drag queen,  a dancer, an herbal healer, a gay rights activist, a fabulous flailing fenominal beauty, a hostess with the mostess and a bitch in the kitchen.. now I'm a bitch in a ditch. Yes thrown to the curb. Evicted. Waaaah

The eviction came at a bad time (are there any good times?). I have very limited resources- basically living off social security and a little extra. I will need to raise money both to fight the new owner for more time, to cover moving, and to provide first/last month rent for a new home.

I've been to a number of lawyers but to pursue a case costs $$ with no guarantee of return. Bad news is for me is that that the large move-out settlements you hear about from Ellis Act evictions don't come with an owner move-in. And the new owners have hired top (unkind) lawyers in town, so I'm likely to get the bare minimum allowed by law ($5,500). That's chump change, and won't come close to covering my expenses.

Good news is I have you' all- my amazing friends- to help defer the costs. I've also talked to movers and with the bounty of treasures I own it won't be cheap.

I might be making light of this experience (that's me) but have to say being evicted is no joke.

Still, I have a positive plan of action and am looking for rentals in the Ukiah area. My dear friend Jeremy has also offered me a room in San Francisco as a city base so that I continue to be around the friends and city I love.

It's always hard to ask for help (particularly for me.) But think of it as an investment in keeping my spirit alive and thriving so that collectively we all can continue to fight for the soul of this town.  Eviction does NOT have to equal death. The more of us that fight the harder it will be for landlords to evict people in the future.

And I will fight!

And I've got some great perks for this fighting campaign including from the good people at Orrs Hot Springs as well as good friends/artists, David Weissman, Marc Huestis, Dan Nicoletta, and the legendary  creater of Hedwig-  Mr. Tony Award Winner him/herself John Cameron Mitchell!

 As Hedwig would say-

"Don't you know me San Francisco?
I'm the New Berlin wall.
Not going to turn our home into a wicked little town
I'm not going to let the bastards tear me down."

I appreciate your support.

Finally here's a little to something to put you in the giving spirit (pretend it's my birthday)
