Support Lucila's medical recovery

We would like to introduce you to Lucila Munaretto, a 21 year old ballerina currently living and dancing in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Born in Argentina, Lucila has always shown a talent for dance. At a young age she was awarded a scholarship to attend the Bolshoi Theatre School in Brazil and her family relocated to Joinville, Brazil for her to train. In the summer of 2012, Lucila met Li Yaming, artistic director of Coastal City Ballet , and she was awarded a full scholarship to come and dance in Vancouver, Canada.

She danced the lead role of Gretel in the ballet "Hansel and Gretel"
as well as the role of the Stepsister, Drizella in the ballet "Cinderella." Read the Surrey Leader's great review of Lucila's performance. Here's a short clip of Lucila in warmup class alongside her fellow dancers at Coastal City Ballet in Vancouver.

In addition to her dancing, Lucila is a fabulous older sister to her three siblings and a great daughter to her loving parents.
She loves to cook and spend time with her friends. She was spending the remainder of her summer break by working at a local bakery, Spiritual Ingredients, in White Rock.

Now, for the sad news. On Thursday, August 13, 2015, Lucila was involved in a serious accident while rollerblading in North Vancouver.  She sustained several bone fractures which is devastating enough news for a ballet dancer. In addition, she has suffered a severe head injury which is yet to be fully diagnosed as she continues to be in a coma. She requires surgery immediately for her spine in order to stabilize it and we do not yet know what other surgeries may or may not be required. You can read the article about Lucila's accident in the North Shore News at this link.

Lucila is receiving the best treatment from the great people at  Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver with her younger sister, Flor, and her Canadian family at Coastal City Ballet at her side.  However, Lucila only has basic MSP coverage here in BC. She is covered for all of the treatment she needs but her insurance does not cover emergency travel for her family nor will it cover all of her rehabilitation costs.

The Munaretto family is one of lower means. They currently are not in the financial position to travel to Canada nor pay for the rehab that Lucila will require if she wishes to dance again. They have never travelled internationally and therefore have never applied for passports. Furthermore, Lucila's youngest sister is only eight years old and cannot be left at home. The RCMP and the fabulous team at the Crisis Intervention Unit are doing everything they can to expedite the paperwork for Lucila's family to fly to Canada ASAP.  While it is of course beneficial emotionally for families to be together in times like these, the Munaretto's presence is also greatly needed for the medical consent required for Lucila's treatment as she remains unconscious.

While the staff at Lions Gate do everything they can to save Lucila's life and dancing career and the RCMP do everything they can to reunite the Munaretto family in this time of need, we would like to do everything we can to make sure that Lucila and her family are taken care of and their only worries need be about Lucila and her well-being. Offers have already been pouring in from both Brazil and Canada to take care of the Munaretto family while they are away from home. We would now like to pass this message on to raise the funds needed to get the Munaretto family to Vancouver and to ensure Lucila has the best chance to make a full recovery.

An account has already been set up in Brazil for those wishing to send any donations directly.  The banking information is listed below. We have started this gofundme campaign to reach all of Lucila's friends and acquaintances in Canada, the US and abroad. We know there are lots of you out there because Lucila touches the hearts of everyone she meets.

Funds raised through this campaign will go directly towards the purchase of airline tickets for the Munaretto family from Joinville, Brazil to Vancouver, Canada through solely Canada as the Munarettos do not have any US visas. Any leftover funds will go directly to Lucila and the Munaretto family to pay for Lucila's rehabilitation.

***All funds raised through this new and final goal of $100,000.00 will go directly to Lucila's rehabilitation. Any remaining funds from this campaign will be donated to patients who have suffered a traumatic brain injury such as Lucila's and who are in need of the help for their rehabilitation***

We thank you in advance for the generous support and help you have given to Lucila and her family in this difficult time -

Agora a noticia triste.
