When we think about the heartbeat of a community, what comes to mind are people who tirelessly volunteer their time and talent for other’s enjoyment. Sometimes these people can go unnoticed in a crowd because they aren’t nice just so people notice. They’re kind and helpful because that’s who they are.
This fundraiser is to help two such individuals. You know them. You love them. You’ve probably benefitted from their actions –
Mike & Luann Hoffman
Over 30 years ago, Luann started baking for retail in her family’s Ellington home; thus was born LuAnn's Bakery. In the succeeding years, her business has steadily grown to include local Farmer’s Markets, orchards wanting high quality baked products using their fruits, and many, many personal orders. Her philosophy has always been to bake quality food items, just like she’s fed her family for the past 40 years. Luann’s amazing skill, dedication, and organization have brought this bakery to burst the seams of their home, taking up the main floor and most of the basement for storage.
This is how you can help......
Because Mike & Luann have given so much to community, friends, and family, this fundraiser is an attempt to let them know how much they are loved and appreciated.
They have a dream to move their bakery to a new location in Ellington to accommodate a storefront as well as adding other exciting products and services for their customers. Obviously, this is a big undertaking for Mike and Luann at their stage in life. Your financial support to jumpstart an even better LuAnn’s Bakery would mean the world to them…and you know they would never ask for the help themselves!

**Grampa Mike, with his signature train-engineer cap, is the owner of Hoffman Farm Repair. Many know him as the long-time leader of the local 4H club, Piston Pushers, which operates out of his own mechanic shop. Others know him because he took time build bonfires by the skating pond when kids come to ice skate, light fireworks in the field, give hayrides, bale hay, and dozens of other farm activities that he allowed kids to watch or be involved in. It’s not uncommon for him to take his Saturday to spend time working for other’s enjoyment instead of his own projects. Serving on the local cemetery board, the Ellington Farmer’s Market, and called upon at any hour of the day or night to repair machinery or people issues, that’s Mike.
Who welcomed twenty-five foster children into her home while raising five of their own? Who does field work, mows an enormous yard, picks a five-gallon bucket of green beans and then goes inside to put the finishing touches on a six course meal as a matter of routine? Who, at a moment’s notice, can calmly fed 40 people for dinner? All while getting up at 4 AM to mix bread dough, whip up dozens of cookies, and organize and work alongside a crew of 10 all day to make the delicious baked goods we've come to count on? When the baking crew leaves, who plans for the next day’s work while fielding phone orders, taking a meal to someone in need, then making a trip to Sam’s Club and falling into bed at 9PM?
