My first memory of singing for people was when I was 4 years old, my dad walked by my room and overheard me singing a Christina Aguliera song.
He stopped and asked me to sing again. Then he called my mom into the room.
"Kim! You have to hear this"
"Jaz, sing what you just sang!"
I proceeded to sing the song, and my mom was left in awe. Apparently I had been singing Barney and other childhood TV show tunes before I could even speak but now my voice was developing.
In 8th grade, I started taking singing serious and left my shyness behind. I accidentally was put in chorus, and to my luck was forced to sing. At the end of the year I had learned some chords on my guitar and we did a showcase . I played Bubbly by Colbie Callait, and after my performance and the feedback I received, I realized being a musician is without a doubt part of who I am.
During my time at Blake High School, which I am extremely blessed to have attended, I learned a lot about performance and stage presence. I majored in the Musical Theatre program and also was a part of the Dance Team. Staying so busy during my adolescent years helped me gain valuable experience about my voice. I graduated from Blake in 2014, and now am furthering my education at Florida A & M University.
I recently stumbled upon an opportunity to perform at a huge music festival in Miami, on February 28th but would need about $750 to travel, pay the dues for independent artist to perform($500), and stay in Miami for a night. Any amount will lift some weight off my shoulders. Also keep in mind there are fees collected so I have to set the bar a little higher to reach the full $750.
