I began cutting my own hair at age twelve. Shortly thereafter, my friends and their parents started coming to me for their cut, color, and styling needs. One woman in particular was so impressed with what I could do with a pair of kitchen scissors, she purchased a pair of professional shears for me. Having an adult acknowledge my talent at a young age planted the seed that doing what I love was actually an option for my career.
My eclectic upbringing brought a thorough exposure to Ayurveda, Aromatherapy, and holistic healing. I have long since had the vision to start a wellness and community center that functions as a venue for art, performance, workshops, healthy food, and therapeutic beauty services. I am also interested in starting my own line of hair and skin care, and enhancing the salon experience by combining external beauty with morale enhancing methods such as guided meditation, mantra work, visualization techniques etc.
It is my mission to unify spirituality, science, and art, and disintegrate discriminatory beauty standards. By pulling from aesthetics and ideals around the world, we can increase the vision of global oneness, while enhancing the uniqueness of all ethnic backgrounds.
Due to my ethnicity I feel a particular drive to learn as much as possible about the Black beauty industry. The common vision of beautiful hair dictates that European sleek and straight hair is standard and most desirable. Because of this, folks who don’t have this hair are using extremely harsh chemicals to achieve a look that is difficult and hazardous to attain. This barely scratches the surface of what is going on with the global beauty industry, but I hope to contribute to a more inclusive and natural ideal.
If you believe in my vision of bringing bliss and vibrance to the world, while conquering skewed perceptions of beauty and the destructive practices that come with it, please support my cause.
Class begins March 5th, but it is crucial that I acquire funds as soon as possible so I can move back to my sweet hometown of Denver where my roots can take hold. Any assistance granted to me will drastically assist me throughout the year.
If you are able to make any contribution towards my future and my dreams coming true I will be forever grateful and remember your loving support for the rest of my life.
With your help, I will be able to complete my thirteen month program at Aveda, and have the opportunity to work backstage at New York and London fashion week!
Thank you so much.
