Let Them Eat Cake Naperville 2016

WE ARE BACK FOR 2016! For the past two years, Let Them Eat Cake Chicago-Naperville has donated complete birthday kits to Loaves & Fishes Community Services. These kits (also known as "birthday bags") contain all of the items a Loaves & Fishes client needs to throw their child's birthday party, such as plates, cups, napkins, streamers, goodie bags, party favors, a boxed cake mix, a can of frosting, and more.
All birthday bags are donated on my birthday, July 15. The first year of this project, 2014, I exceeded my 32 bag goal and donated 65. Last year was incredibly exciting as I was able to donate 106 bags!
My goal for 2016 remains 100 bags, with a minimum of 34 to symbolize turning 34 this year.
Why do I do what I do? As a child, my mother and father made every birthday special for me, be it throwing a party, staying up late to decorate the entire house, and generally making me feel as though I was the most special person in the world. Birthdays are amazing ways to celebrate the life of those we love, and for children, they are magical days full of fun and carefree freedom. This project is undertaken in memory of my mom, who passed away three weeks to the day (June 24, 2007) before my 25th birthday.
However, not every child's family can afford to give him or her a celebration on their birthday. It may not seem like much, but to a child whose family is experiencing financial hardships, a party with his or her friends can help the worries of the world fall away and provide critical normalcy in their live.
