La fé de las mujeres

Donation protected
Dear Community,

My name is Tatjana and I have been living in Guatemala for the last 14 months. I feel honored to have met these strong and talented women, and I want to help them to create a better future for their children.  I could go on now, and tell you about their hardships and struggles, about the poverty and the many problems they face on a daily basis. This is the reality, however, I have learned from these women to focus on the positive, to believe in the strength of community and to have faith in the good and positive around us.

La fe de las mujeres:
La fe in Spanish means faith, conviction, hope, confidence, inspiration. For us this sums up perfectly what these women stand for. They focus on what they can do and they have hope for a better future. We have faith that with your help we can make a difference.

We need the capital to start our own company and our own foundation. Our goal is to provide a fair and sustainable income,  to empower these women, and also to establish a community fund. This will be used to pay school tuitions for children, provide language classes in Spanish and English as well as health and nutrition courses for the women.

What we do:
We work together to keep this tradition of organically growing, naturally dyeing and weaving on backstrap looms, to create modern accessories for men and women.
At the beginning, we will be able to support 25 women with a fair salary and pay school tuitions for 30 children.
Our goal is to involve more communities, teach this traditional way of naturally dying and weaving. We will pay a fair salary for up to 100 women and pay school tuitions for 120 children by the end of 2016.
Once we have the initial costs covered, we will be able to increase production, introduce more products and incorprate different materials in our designs.

Why do we need your help:
We need your help to cover the legal fees and start up costs of opening and registering our company and our foundation. And we need to be able to cover all costs and salaries to produce for at least 2 months before we can start shipping our products.

We believe that our natural products are a perfect fit for todays market of organic clothing and accessories. We did extensive market research and already found boutiques in Europe and the USA that will sell our products to their customers. We know that an increasing number of customers are focusing on organic materials and value companies that pay fair salaries and support their communities, rather than exploiting them.

Why is this so important to us:
The indigenous women here in Guatemala work hard to provide a better future for their children. The most important part is education. Most women only speak their native Mayan language, which makes it difficult to communicate. The women are not only taking care of their children and households, often they are also the sole provider of income for their families. In our business model, the women can work from home, which is essential for them to be able to care for their families while working.
Often children only attend school for a few years before they join their parents, working in order to survive. With your support we can improve their way of living and make sure the children receive the education they deserve.
