Hello,

My name is Krystal. I am 21 years old. I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Here is a brief version of my story. Growing up, I lived in a less than ideal situation. My parents and grandmother were alcoholics. Both my grandmother and my father passed away when I was very young. My mother let her alcoholism spiral out of control. I bacame depressed soon after my dad passed away at age ten. I was forced to take care of myself, as my mom was always drinking and the man I now consider my step-dad was always out of town at work. My mom failed to protect me when it mattered most, and my depression spiraled. By age 15, I wanted out. I left to live with some family members, but that didn't turn out so well in the end. I returned home, only to learn that my moms drinking had gotten worse. The state child protective services agency had been involved several times throughout my childhood but had never taken real action until I was 17. Between December of 2010 and  February of 2011 I was in the emergency room three times and the psych hospital twice before they decided that they should take custody of me. Anyways, after a long 8 month journey through the foster care system, I turned 18. I became greatful for my situation. I have gotten help, my mom quit drinking, I am a junior studying psychology at the University of New Mexico, I am a volunteer leader at my church, I am a youth advocate for foster care and mental health in my community. Life sounds just about perfect right? I am so passionate about the advocacy work I do! I love God and love serving Him at my church!! The other side of me though, is that I'm hurting. I have experienced traumatic events that I need to get away to deal with. I strive to take care of others, but I need help too. That is why I want to go to Mercy Ministries. It is a trauma-informed, evidenced-based, faith-based, treatment program for hurting young women. I feel like this is what I am suppose to do. The program itself is approximately 6 months long and is free of charge, however, I am responsible for travel to and from the program as well as an initial $300 dollars and additional $100 per month for personal care items such as hygeine products, clothes, unexpected medical expenses, etc... I also have to pay my rent for the entire time I am gone as a lump sum. I live alone and support myself fully. It's hard for me to post here, but I realize that sometimes, its ok to ask for help.  Thank you all in advance!
