'Educate To Elevate!'We Must Teach Our Children If We Want Them To Reflect The Best In Us!" Kujichagulia University Pre-K/12 & Cultural Center

The Vision:
Hello, I am Takuna M. EL Shabazz a teacher of 26 years and life resident of Lafayette, LA with deep-rooted community ties and involvement. For the past two years I have been engaged in efforts to build an Independent School and Cultural Center for Black/African students in Lafayette, LA.  I am now blessed to be in a position to secure a letter of intent from a major private investor to build the multi-million dollar facilities.  Also, a land contract has been acquired specifically for the building of the school and cultural center. Purpose For Project:
At present the 50% plus failure rate of Black students in the current public schools and charter systems are not acceptable for most Black families.  Many concerned parents have voiced a long list of reasons for the dissatisfactions with the current public schools for years to no avail.  It’s a popular assessment that economically under served impoverished communities become easy victims of no education, mis-education or under education.  Under these circumstances there is a greater propensity for the people of those communities to succumb to acts of self-hate for daily survival.

Due to a lack of knowledge of self, targeted victims unknowingly become socially engineered into becoming managers and facilitators of their own oppressed condition.   The cycle of physical, spiritual and psychological death in Black communities must stop!

It’s apparent that an independent school designed with a different paradigm to meet the educational, cultural, historical, social, economic, and spiritual needs of Black students is paramount to the full development of Black children and the communities in which they live.

Project Name, Goals and Objectives:
Kujichagulia University, approximately 89,000 sq. ft. in size, is a SOLAR ENERGY POWERED state of the art Independent Black/Afrikan Centered School-serving students from Pre/k to 12th grade with the capacity of 650 students.

The school is conveniently located on the North side of Lafayette, LA.   The ideal location of the school, which border between two heavily populated majority Black neighbor hoods, allows for easy walking distance for potential students from those communities.  The school will offer a well-rounded Black/Afrikan Centered Educational experience to all its students by providing a rich academic curriculum. The use of advance digital technology as a tool will be utilized to implement the curriculum whenever possible, such as desk top computers, laptops, iPods, digital books etc.

The curriculum will consist of all the Sciences, English, Math, three foreign Languages, Enriched Cultural Studies, Sports and an array of extra-curricular studies including but not limited to Cultural Dance & Music, Creative Arts, Drama and a vast number of age appropriate Tutorial Programs.

In addition, ‘The Black Magic Square Culture, Education and Event learning Center’, approximately 80,000 sq. ft. in size is located adjacent to the school. Without a doubt this makes Kujichagulia University a unique educational institution with a different paradigm for learning.  The Learning Center will include, an on campus Bookstore & Culture Museum, a large Reception Hall, Bowling Alley, Eat To Live Deli, Credit Union and an Event Theater with seating capacity of 800 to 1200 patrons.  The Learning Center will not only house the extracurricular activities but students during regular school hours on occasions will have the opportunity to benefit from the exposure of a variety of motivating educational community events that will booster their self-esteem for learning.  The ultimate intent is to 'Educate To Elevate!'

Funding Requested:
I am attempting to raise $10,000 to continue to move forward in a timely manner in the building of this much-needed educational institution. The targeted date of completion is 90 to 120 days before the opening of next school year of  August 2019.  This time frame can be met if I am able to break ground soon for development.  If you value the concept of ‘Self-Determination’ then help me raise the funds needed. Ideally, a donated amount to cover our goal would be great! A few sizable donations would work as well! However,  donations of any amount as a donor, that you are comfortable with would be valued. Individually we think to do great things! Collectively, we make what we think of great!  I thank you in advance for your kindness and consideration.

Note:

The picture of the school in the promotion is not the actual school but a prototype we intend to will build.
