Hope for Heather

She was dead for 16 minutes... And then three more times...

My friend Heather is 23 years old and the mother of a beautiful 5 year old daughter, Adrianna. She works at Wal-Mart and luckily, has benefits. She and George were thrilled recently when they were able to move to a better neighborhood and provide a better life for little Adrianna. She and George recently debuted a show together. We would really like to see it again. :-)

On Jan 19th at 8 am, Heather had a massive heart attack while stopped at a red light in Clearwater, Fl. We don't know yet why it happened. She was driving when the heart attack hit. Her boyfriend George was in the passenger seat and quickly put his foot on the break while moving her to switch seats. Lucky for everyone, George and Heather were just a couple of miles from Largo Medical center, which is one of the best cardiac facilities in Florida. Violating all traffic laws, and even driving the wrong way down the highway, almost having a head on collision, George was able to get her to Largo Medical within three minutes. Heather died on the way there while George was holding her head. He pulled up to the emergency room screaming "Help" and two men out front immediately began helping him get Heather out of the van. Those amazing ER doctors worked on her for 16 minutes before they had a pulse. We want to send a HUGE thank you to the incredible health care workers that didn't give up and brought her back not once, not twice, but FOUR times in the next few hours. You really are miracle workers!

Heather required surgery and was implanted with a defibrillator and pacemaker. It is a miracle that she is still with us! But Heather,George and their beautiful daughter need your help... They will both be out of work for a long time. Heather will need a lot of rest, maintenance and time to heal. Lucky for her, she has insurance. Unfortunately, between the deductible and the 10% she will still owe, their part will be between $12,000 and $15,000 UP FRONT!!! and that isn't including any of the follow up for doctor visits, therapy and the maintenance of her heart attack. Their base line expenses each month are right at $2000 between rent, insurance, phones, gas and food. We need to get enough for them to get through the next few months that neither will be working. We would hate to see them lose the house they just got. This tragic event has turned their world upside down. Let's give them the hope back that they had before this happened!
George is part of the street theater community here in Clearwater. While being self-employed is empowering in most regards, there is no paid sick time for him to use to stay with Heather for the next 10 or 12 weeks while she needs constant attention.

One pacemaker/defibulator scar for Heather.

To the street theater community:
George has asked that you do one show for Heather and please donate here. If you are in a place that you can't work at the moment, just donate what you would normally average in one show. If you can give more, please do. Every bit is going to help them.

I asked George to give me the best hat lines for this since we would be talking to the street theater community. Please picture George on his shaky box with his hat in his hand and delivering these gems...
(for those of you that aren't fluent is street theater lingo, the hat line is what the performers say at the end of the show to get you to tip them :-) )

"We except credit cards! They don't have to be yours!"

"Reach into your wallet, take out a five or a ten, and put your wallet in our hat!"

"It's just like church! The more you give, the better you feel!"

"A 5, and we will go home feeling like stars! A 10, and we will go home feeling like super stars! A 20 and we will go home with you!"

On behalf of Heather and George, their families, friends and fans, thank you for helping out. Together we will make a huge difference in the lives of good people that had a tragic situation hit them.
