Victims of Inwood Real Estate Scam

Donation protected
Some Inwood families were recently scammed out of thousands of dollars each. A con artist posing as a real estate leasing agent promised these families apartments in the building at 552 Academy St., going so far as to present the victims with phony leases and fake keys.

You can read about the story here: http://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/20150119/inwood/woman-scammed-thousands-from-families-seeking-affordable-apartments

The money scammed represents a particularly big hardship for these working families. At present there are at least three known families preyed upon by this con artist.

Please consider donating to this GoFundMe so that these victims can get some of their money back.

At the end of this campaign, any money raised will be distributed evenly to the victims. I will work with community leaders, community organizations, or local politicians to ensure the money is distributed properly and that everything is done above board.

I am an Inwood resident of 10 years and have worked with local non-profits and community groups in the past. I have no connection whatsoever with the victims of this crime. As an immigrant myself, this story really angered me and I decided to take action.

Thanks for thinking about your fellow neighbor.

01/22/15 Update: This campaign will be closed on January 31, 2015 so that any money raised so far can get to the victims ASAP.
