I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm officially in college!! This is an exciting time for me as I see the fruits of my labor present itself incrementally. The past four years in high school has been rewarding, enriching and challenging. I've created a circle of friends that have similar interests as me. Under the expert tutelage of the teachers, I was able to successfully complete the rigorous coursework.
Additionally, throughout my academic career, I have been involved in extra-curricular activities. I was a member of the Nurange Dance Ensemble, and Brooklyn Academy of Music-Dancing into the Future choreography program. Currently, I am the captain of Benjamin Banneker's cheerleading team, a member of BenBan Productions; Benjamin Banneker's cinematography group; ETC Fashion group; and All Stars Project. Finally, I am the founder of Benjamin Banneker's Natural Hair Club, Naturally Oui!. With membership of 20 students, I've created an evironment that young men and women can discuss healthy living, create positive affirmations and indulge in anecdotal hair talk.
It is bitter sweet to leave this part of my life behind, but I'm excited about what the future holds for me. That said, I appreciate any monetary support that you can provide to help fulfill my dream. I plan to attend college this coming fall. Thus far, I was awarded $1000 from O'Melveny & Myers for my leadership and academic excellence. The cost of higher education continues to rise.So, whilst I remain steadfast applying for scholarships, I hope that you, too, can lend support.
