Inspiration behind our non-profit organization, Karuna Farmstead, and why we need seed funding:
Halee is a 27-year-old woman whose experience after high school was not what she expected. Like many special education students, she did not graduate until age 21, and when she did leave school, she left 16 years of routinely waking up and going to a familiar place and seeing familiar faces. Everything she knew came to an end.
Halee’s mom recalls, “She didn’t understand why she couldn’t go back to school. She missed her teachers and friends.”

“Purpose” is one of the key elements of our mission. At Karuna Farmstead, located in Waleska, Georgia (northwest of Atlanta), we strive to cultivate an integrated community where all people, even differently abled ones, feel they have a purpose. We are a continuing education and community center for adult individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
You can give the gift of purpose and self-worth to adult individuals like Halee. Your donation will directly impact the lives of men and women like her by providing vocational and life-skills training while they take classes that emphasize agriculture and the arts. Participants in our program gain confidence, make friends, acquire social and vocational skills, and most importantly, they are contributing something to the community.
When someone asks Halee, “What do you do?” she can proudly say, “I am a gardener, a baker, and a weaver.” And why shouldn’t she be? Doesn’t she deserve that?
Without your donation, the post-school life experience for many individuals with intellectual disabilities is not a fulfilling or optimistic one. Individuals are prone to depression, something Haylee is familiar with, and they can lack direction, self-esteem and a sense of pride. If we achieve (or exceed) our capital campaign goal of $50,000, we can change their future.
You can make a difference three ways:

2. SHARE…Because social media is magical!
3. PRAY…We’ll take all the good vibes and juju you got!
