Volunteering in Madagascar!
Donation protected
Hi everyone! My name is Katie Hayashi, and I'm a sophomore International Relations major at the University of Southern California.
Here's a little information about me: I have a love for all things having to do with animals and the ocean, I spent last summer working at Utah's Hogle Zoo (but not always scaring Indiana Jones with snakes like in my photo), and I'm passionate about making sure the animals I love and the habitats they live in remain intact for many years to come.
I was recently accepted along with my best friend Abeni to spend four weeks volunteering in the forests on the island of Nosy Komba in Madagascar. (Thats us in the photo below! I'm on the right, and Abeni is on the left.)

The program focuses on tracking and monitoring the diverse animal species that inhabit the island of Nosy Komba. Many of these animals are in danger mainly due to habitat destruction. We will be tracking any changes in forest dynamics as well as attempting to recognize any potential future and local threats to the animals or their habitat. Below is a video on the program:
$3500 is my goal to cover the program fee and the cost of a rountrip flight from Salt Lake City to Madagascar and back.
I am so blessed to have been given the opportunity to contribute to a cause I am passionate about in such a beautiful and biodiverse country--all with my best friend by my side. Absolutely anything you can give is so greatly appreciated! If you are unable to give monetarily, simply passing this page along to others would be a big help.
If you wish to help both of us, here is the link to Abeni's GoFundMe page as well!

Thank you so much!
