Artist in Residency in Rio, Brasil

My name is Julia Guzmán, I am a Dominican art student at the San Francisco Art Institute, in California majoring in Sculpture.

I'm honored to share with you that on my junior year at SFAI, I've been chosen in the Artist in Residency program "Largo das Artes" in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil for the entire month of July, 2015.

Because of its location -designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO-, this will be of my greatest appreciation and most importantly cultural inspiration for my work.

As an emerging artist that has worked in different mediums; clay, plaster, wax, wood and metal, I am now concentrating on the study of abstract forms inspired on diverse concepts such as time and transitional systems. I am passionate and excited to immerse myself in the strains of everyday life of this creative place and merge their native qualities to the same concepts i've been working on. Being Dominican and living in San Francisco i've experienced the same ideas in very contrasting ways.

This intercultural experience will provide me with an opportunity to grow and guide my professional development amongst three other international residents.

With your contribution I'll be able to cover the expenses of the tuition of the residency, materials that I'll be using while working there, living expenses for the month of July and August as well as transportation. 

This is a unique opportunity that is providing me a chance to enhance and experience the growing and inspiring ideas among different cultures.
