Pencil Box Project Update
Every year, over 900 homeless children in Denver struggle to meet the basic needs of getting back to school- we need your help! The Child Rescue Foundation began the Pencil Box Project in 2002 to serve the children who are working toward their high school graduation with the help of Denver Kids Inc. With the help of generous individuals and organizations in the greater Denver area, we have helped over 4500 children get the supplies they need to successfully complete their schooling.
I am often told when picking up that our donors have felt they “could have done more.” I am of the belief that if we get one pencil, it was one pencil more than we had at the beginning of the drive, and what makes us successful is the donors huge hearts that come out and give their all to help the children we serve.
As many of you know, this organization is a fully volunteer driven organization, with no staff or board member receiving compensation for their time. We know that giving a hand up and not a hand out allows students to own their education, and hence, we partner with Denver Kids and other outlying agencies who expect their children to maintain certain grade levels, attend class regularly, and push themselves to be successes. In seeing their success rate, it is our privilege to be part of their effort in giving students who often have to choose between dinner and a backpack, their backpack to see them through to their success.
On behalf of the Board of Directors of CRF, we wish to say a huge thank you for the most successful drive in our 11 year history of providing support to the Denver Public School System and their students.
Items raised: 120 packs of crayons/340 pencils/88 erasers/compasses & protractors/ 145 reams of paper/110 composition books/ glue and glue sticks/220 folders/88 pencil pocket protectors/45 pencil boxes/Kleenex and baggies/45 scissors/28 packages of dry erase markers/65 rulers/ 88 tab dividers/63 notebooks + 90 fr0m CRF/and more!!!!
Total Value approx:$5500.00
Over 450 students were helped by your donations!
We need to have a reserve for the year so that after the drive is finished, and school supplies are used, we can puchase what is necessary.
Our next drive will be the Teddy Bear Project Sept 1-through Nov 21 followed by Santa’s Corner Oct 1-through Dec 12.
