Think P.I.N.K

When I was 7 years old my Aunt Marsha died from Breast Cancer. In 2006 my grandmother was diagnosed as well. After undergoing a single mastectomy she would go through 8 years of remission until being re-diagnosed in the Spring of 2014 with stage four Breast Cancer. Seeing my Nammie fight her cancer while still trying to remain positive has inspired me. Cancer has touched my family immensely and it has motivated me to take action for this worthy cause. I have been given the opportunity to compete in the Miss South Carolina pageant in June and have chosen my platform to be think P.I.N.K in honor of my amazing grandmother. Think P.I.N.K stands for People in Need of Knowledge. My goal is to get the word out about self awareness of Breast Cancer. Many women simply lack the knowledge and therefore don't recognize symptoms or problems they may be having. This tends to lead to late discovery of cancer and often has detrimental results. I hope that through my platform I will be able to educate women about their own bodies, and what they should be doing to monitor for cancer. Another common way for early detection is mammograms. However, without insurance mammograms become very expensive. My hope is that through much fundraising I will be able to raise money to help afford mammograms for women who can not afford them on their own. I pray that I inspire people to be more aware and to realize just how much they can do to help through such little effort. I'm doing this to help the memory of my loving Nammie live on forever. Whose life will you save?
