Julia's Education: College Fund

My mom said it would be embarrassing
for me to start a GoFundMe, but I think it's more embarrassing that between 2003 and 2013, the average price index for college tuition grew by 79.5% (according to the Labor Department) and I have to even make this page to cover the cost of getting an education.

So anyways, hello! I'm Julia.
I attended one of the exam high schools in Boston, from 2009 to 2015. Starting in September, I will be attending a University in Cambridge. I intend on double-majoring in Secondary Education & English/Language Arts. I would like to teach at a high-needs high school in Boston, so I can make the largest impact possible on the lives of people who don't always get the best opportunities. I want to teach English/Language Arts because I believe books, the lives of authors, and writing in general can be very revolutionary, eye-opening and just simply relieving.

I am very passionate about social justice. I am and have been a member of a few programs that center around advocacy and making a difference,  Starting at 12 years old, I was a member of a Substance Abuse Awareness group that advocated to City Officials to make changes in legislation that would help people struggling with addictions. I relatively recently joined a social organization that gave us the chance to do a Community Action Project to bring awareness of societal problems to our schools and neighborhoods. I not only want to have the means to getting a career that allows me to continue helping people, but I'd like to be able to put some of my free-time into continuing with these organizations, and finding new organizations and causes to fight, instead of working three jobs...
I also have begun an Instagram @Skyvibing  filled with pictures of Sunsets and Skylines as a coping mechanism from therapy, but it's very hard to catch the Sunset every night when I'm usually working..

The reason I created this GoFundMe was because my University comes to approximately $40,000 with tuition, room/board, fees, books, etc etc. I was given about $17,000 in merit scholarships but that's just simply not enough to cover the cost of college. I've taken out $5,500 in my name for loans and my parents have taken out the rest in their name (keep in mind this is only for the first year!).
My mom is a secretary and my dad is a city worker, so they're already not in the best economic shape, but now they also have to start trying to pay back the loans of my brother who just graduated from a University in Boston and has been in and out of work because of health problems and surgeries.

I have been working since I was 11 years old: as a cashier, a babysitter, a waitress, a preschool teacher's assistant, a member of the substance abuse awareness group, an intern for a social justice organization, and the list goes on.. This summer in particular, I have worked three jobs in attempt to begin to cover some of the cost of college, but after having to buy my dorm necessities all by myself, there isn't much money left in my bank account! Just feels like I've been working too hard for too little.

Hey, just remember, every dollar you give is another chance for me to take the day off and enjoy the beach as I should be doing!!
