THE JONESES
Imagine an interactive storybook app series starring a contemporary African-American family! I've developed one called The Joneses and I need your help to bring it to life. Each installment, tailored for children ages 3 – 10, will feature a fun and engaging story, along with related games, interactive activities, a read-along function, and songs. Topics will include cultural awareness, recognizing emotions, respect for others, exercise, nutrition and more.

Currently, there is nothing on the market for African-American children like The Joneses. This app will give young children of color the opportunity to see themselves in an encouraging, positive light—the very things children need to build self-worth, confidence, and pride.

THE CAMPAIGN
In order to build this much-needed app, I'll need to raise $35,000. The funds will be used to hire the following contributors:

• Audio engineers - $1k
• Singers and musicians - $2k
• Marketing - $1k

ABOUT ME
My name is Michael Lurry and I live in the Washington, D.C. area. I graduated from the School of Visual Arts (Cartoon major) in New York City and have been an illustrator and graphic design professional for over 20 years with a concentration on marketing and youth health education. Through these experiences, I developed an expertise in storytelling for the youth market.

I have consulted with New York Presbyterian Hospital, National Library of Medicine, Multnomah County Health Department, Behavior Works, Sacramento Department of Health, Global Protection and Washington, D.C. Department of Health, helping to create prevention campaigns for youth, which included comic books, posters, bus ads, billboards, and other promotional material. More about me here .
