NH - Veteran, Medical Bills

On May 2nd, John was riding his motorcycle in Windham NH and was hit by an uninsured driver who ran a stop sign. His injuries were devastating.
John is a Veteran, and has spent years helping other veterans. In fact, on the day of the accident John was doing volunteer work for "Homes For Our Troops", trying to find a venue for an annual event motorcycle rally on August 5th. John has been working with this event for the past 13 years, and has also been a member and "Ride Captain" with NH Patriot Guard Riders, taking part in more than 100 "missions" throughout New England since he joined the organization. In a "past life" John was an EMT-A (both volunteer and full time) for more than 10 years, as well as a volunteer firefighter for more than 5 years.
When the SUV struck him, John was thrown into the air and landed on the driver's windshield. John was wearing a helmet and has over 40 years' experience riding motorcycles. (It is possible that he will never be able to ride again due to his injuries.) The police have confirmed the accident was entirely the fault of the driver of the SUV.
John's injuries were so severe that Med-Flight was called to take him to the hospital. Bills from the local ambulance plus Med-Flight total over $19,000. That doesn't include any bills for his 5 surgeries, a hospital stay in intensive-care, or post-op rehab.
This accident has altered the course of John's life. His will be undergoing a long period of recovery and will most likely never be fully "recovered" to the same physical condition he was in before. He is suddenly VERY deep in debt. He will most likely not be able to ride a motorcycle again due to his injuries.
John describes the current state of his life:
"Karen and I have been planning for over a year to take a "once in a lifetime" trip to Las Vegas.....but now we don't even know if I will be able to fly.........and won't have an answer from the doctor about that issue until late this month......It really sucks........some guy I have never known has not only physically destroyed me; he has altered the entire course of my future without even asking me....left me with such a limited outlook it is hard to believe this is where I end up......forced to give up my plans.....BUT, now I can start looking at things I would never considered, so I guess there may be a bright side overall......at least I can hope there is........."
