Thank you friends for taking the time to read about my friend Rocco Salomone and his illness.
Rocco Salomone has been fighting against a rare form of cancer called Gist. It started in his lower intestine and for a few years he was handling the treatments ok. Recently the cancer has spread and he has multiple tumors and one large one is pressing on an artery in his Liver. He is using trial drugs to combat this cancer. They are EXPENSIVE and he hasn't been able to work for sometime. Kelly (Rocco's wife) has the only working income currently. Rocco and Kelly have three children who are all in school. I don't need to say how expensive all this can be for anyone especially when someone is ill.
Rocco played football at SUNY Brockport in the late 80s. He stayed on after his career was over and eventually became the head football coach. Anyone who knows Rocco knows how dedicated and hard He worked for the football program as well as the college. In my opinion he turned the program into a continually competitive and respectable one. He was also very committed to seeing his players graduate and become good men. Once again in my opinion He did more for SUNY Brockport than any other football coach in its history.
I was a teammate of Rocco and his brother Blase. Both were very talented players. I went on to become a coach in high school and I can tell you Rocco was always there for advice, guidance and support. I can go on and on about how hard it is to find good coaches today, but I won't. I think it's more difficult to find good people in the world. My friend Rocco is one of the very best kinds of people there is. He has helped thousands of young men become good football players but more importantly become better men. Rocco and his wife Kelly have helped many and now it's time that they get some help. I urge you all to consider helping in anyway you can. The man and family that have done for so many need a hand. It's our job to make sure they get it.
