Barry's Last Wish

This our story,

My name is Shona and I'm raising funds in aid of my Dad Barry.

My Dad suffers from a number of ailments, he was diagnosed with MS over 30 years ago. A point in life when he was told he would never walk again as he was paralysed from the neck down, within 4 years he proved every doctor and specialist wrong by walking again and living life to the fullest whilst still battling MS daily. That alone shows the strength my amazing Father has.

3 years ago, Dad was diagnosed with end stage COPD. Giving just a prognosis of 3 months left of life. In this time we got mum and dad married... finally and tried to make the most of every moment together. We have been blessed to have had so much more time together then originally thought. Although living life on tender hooks, never knowing what will happen day to day. We as a family have had our hearts and worlds torn apart by this terminal illness. Several times we have been told he has a matter of hours to live and to say our goodbyes but he fights so hard to live another day and be there for his family. Dad has chosen to stay home in his final time so home life is very consumed by this looming sentence, although we are spending more and more time in intensive care due to his condition worsening.

He is currently fighting a second attack of phenmonia but I have faith in him beating it and everyone who has been blessed to have met him can say the same. We are also firm believers that laughter is the best medicine so it's never a dull moment.

My dad is my world and he has expressed a last wish to go home to Liverpool for a weekend (cue Dad's born on the docks story) in order to do this, I have to arrange safe travel, accommodation, equipment and fun activities so he can relive his youth and share his memories.

I'm also going to university in Liverpool and although the likelihood of him being there for my graduation is unlikely it would be an honor to share a uni moment with him as this makes him so proud.

It would mean the world to us to have our (I hope not to be but) potentially our last scallywag together. As Father and Daughter. He is my best friend, my rock and my world and if we can give him another great memory. Then the world is an amazing place. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Kind regards
Shona :)
