Jerris' Prosthetic Leg Medical Fund

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for visiting my GoFundMe page. Before you decide to make a donation, I want you to know me a little bit. That's important to me. This has been (still is) a life-changing journey and I've learned a lot about myself and life; what's important. I am very grateful for my Mother, friends & family and the THOUSANDS of people who've been on this journey with us globally. Through my transparency, I've been changing people's lives. I'm so moved. Again thank you for caring.

BACKSTORY

In August 2014, I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Chondrosarcoma Bone Cancer and was told I will have to have my entire right leg amputated. I was shocked and cried for days. This was after getting a second opinion. I came to NYC in October 2014 for my 3rd/4th opinion and the results were the same. I was very angry to be very honest. I was mad at myself because I questioned if I did enough to prevent this. I did.

My tumor was so large it was inches from my colon, stomach, and intestines. So the day before Thanksgiving, I had my leg removed. I stayed in the hospital for 39 days. It was traumatic and rewarding at the same time. I was in so much pain yet I was alive to speak about it and see my mother when I opened my eyes. I learned in the beginning that it's not what happens to you, it's how you respond to what happens to you. I say this often because I don't want amputation guilt to get into my head space. The rehabilitation has its ups and downs. I'm tired often and experience a lot of Phantom Pain plus wound still healing. God spoke to me and said, "STAY IN YOUR STILLNESS." I do.

I have colostomy surgery on April 10, 2015 to reverse it and I will be in the hospital for 3-5 days. This will be my last surgery.

FUNDING
The type of surgery I had was Hip Disarticulation of my right hip and leg. As you can see from the images below, I don't have a stump. I've seen a lot of amputees with Above and Below Knee amputations but rarely people who share my same story. I have to so a lot of research. Whew!

ANY amount you donate matters. This is the prosthetic I need and it's very expensive! I have to insurance however you know how that goes. They will find every excuse NOT to pay for it or all of it. I'm an optimistic people. THIS WILL BE MY LEG!

Plus, I will need special underwear/socks, creams, walker, a new wheelchair (when I'm not wearing prosthetic), rehabilitation, etc. The wheelchair I have isn't suited for my 6'4 frame. Realistically, I will probably need double the asking amount to get me through a year of healing, finding my way of life now being an amputee plus GoFundMe gets almost 8% of funds raised. I will prevail. I have to for myself and my mom.

My doctor stated it will take a full year and a half for my wound to heal. That was hard to swallow because I want to just back into what I love (being a photographer and Editor of a fashion magazine) however I had to understand that it will happen but with time. I am cleared to get fitted the end of May but probably more like June or July 2015.

The funding will help me with a little peace of mind and help with additional finances for me and my mother. My mom gave up her life helping me (feel bad at times), yet I'm very grateful for her love and support. She's helped my healing mentality and physically. I love my mom!

I just want to sense of normalcy and being able to work, walk, stand and run again (The pic below was me a year ago. Wow! Life is Life :)

Check out this video so you can see the functionality of the prosthetic leg I need.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Your help is much appreciated. Mom and I are very grateful. I will keep you updated on our progress.
