JC Aguirre and Jessica Castillo created JC's Journeys to provide environmentally and socially responsible tours around Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica. We launched almost a year ago and our little 2-person gig is growing and we have big ideas still to come. Our next step is getting our own set of wheels, (a vehicle that is!). We've been saving our pennies but could use a little boost to get the most fuel efficient, used 4x4 vehicle that about $6000 can buy in Costa Rica. Our total asking goal from all our donors is only $3000, ideally, to purchase by the beginning of this high season November/December 2014. We believe a modest but sturdy vehicle will help us grow our sustainable tour business in two ways:
1) It will help us to conduct business more efficiently and reach our community partners. Getting around Montezuma as we have been, by bicycle, bus, hitchhiking and our own two feet has certainly been fun, but it's not the best for taking care of business, especially in 80 degree and 80% humid tropical weather (rain and shine). A car will help us better reach our contacts for our local tours that are in remote areas, and conduct business with hotels/agencies outside of Montezuma.
2) It will allow us to provide an economical transportation option for small groups or individual travelers. Currently, we work with a partner to provide transportation. But using a 10 passenger minibus to provide a tour to 2 passengers is, once again, not the most efficient. We'd like to be able to improve our offerings to solo and couple travelers without hiking up the prices for transportation so that everyone get's to learn more about Costa Rican nature and culture, even if they're on a budget (or just don't fancy huge tour groups!) :)
We have worked very hard using only our hard earned cash and savings to get this going. We are thrifty and cautious of how we use each and every dollar, and if you choose to help us out, we would treat your dollars the very same way, whether it's $1 or $100. In the short term, your contribution would go toward helping us purchase a vehicle, but in the long term it would help strengthen the social enterprise we are striving to create to be able to involve and give back to more residents and local organizations.
