Dear friends,

As most of you now know the Board of Education decided to remove our beloved Rebel Man from the walls and halls of our school, to retire the very mascot that has carried our sports teams to victory, cheered with us at pep rallies and has been a part of our tradition and history since our school began.

Aside from the simple fact that this change has proven to be unpopular and the community at large was never consulted nor had any real opportunity to weigh in on the matter, the very process itself has proven to have been flawed in several ways.

It is the aim of our group to expose this flawed and questionable process via legal means.

We already have enough evidence in hand to proceed with a lawsuit to force the Board and its leadership to reveal the process, to show how the removal of our beloved Rebel Man from the school was indeed put into place even before it was made public.  We have the information that shows a few select people have been responsible for the entire uproar and disruption that this process has caused the community and above all our precious students.

No small select group of individuals should be allowed to speak for an entire community, much less in a way that is ethically questionable.

This is as much about what is fair and right as it is about the Mascot.  The actions of the Board call into question their ability to lead our schools in a manner that best serves our students and our community.

As with any legal endeavor there will be cost involved.  Therefore we have set up this GoFundMe site to raise the funds to pay the attorney representing us, Jim Ransom, and offset any costs associated with filing fees and court activities.

Under Alabama law if a suit is brought on ethics grounds against public officials, the court may order restitution of court costs and legal fees if (when) we prevail. If this does occur all funds returned to the plaintiff(s) and counsel will be donated to the classrooms at the High School directly, not via administration or the Board, to help our teachers buy supplies and needed items.

I am running the GoFundMe page for this project.  All accounting will be open to review and a CPA who is an Alumni as well will be assisting with the process.  Transparency is paramount to those of us working on this effort, after all it is the lack of such on the part of the Board of Education that brought us here..

Roger Harris is the one filing the suit but will be happy to add any names if you wish to join that action.

Also if you simply want to donate, there is an option here that will allow you to hide your name from public view on the list of donors.  Of course as proud rebels I feel most of you will be happy to see you name listed among those who love our school and its legacy.
