Gabby and Phillip are a loving couple with two young children aged 3 and 15 months who have lost their life savings and had their home destroyed.
After discovering a small leak in their children's bedroom, Gabby and Phillip hired a builder, who in the process of repairing the leak, told them that there were a number of other problems that needed urgent attention. After forking out £17,000, the builders hired to do the work disappeared with their money and left their house exposed to the elements.
This young family has been forced to live in one room as rainy weather has seen three ceilings collapsed and water damage throughout the house. They cannot use any electricity upstairs because of continuing leaking.
The subcontractor who was hired to rectify the problem, only exaccerbated the situation; installing a completely unstable roof structure. He left the property with only a non-water tight plastic sheet between them and the sky. The building work he did do did not pass building inspections and was of such poor quality that it is going to cost three times as much to fix their roof than it would have had he just left with their money and never touched the place.
The worse part is, as the couple later found out, there was nothing wrong with the roof they originally had!
Every time it rains, the damage to the house gets worse.
This young family has been so traumatised by what they have lost, not only financially but emotionally as well. The whole situation is having a negative impact on the children. The couple were burgled in February and their only hope before this ordeal happened was to make their house feel like home again.
