My paper, “Target on the Plus Side: How Designer Collaboration Consumption is Defying Body Image Identities” was accepted for presentation in the Fashion, Style, Appearance, Consumption and Design area of the 2015 Popular Culture & American Culture Association Conference to be held at the New Orleans Marriot Wednesday, April 1 through Saturday, April 4, 2015.
This area is concerned with all areas and aspects of style, fashion, clothing, design and related trends, as well as appearances and consumption using and/or including: historical sources, manufacturing, aesthetics, marketing, branding, merchandising, retailing, psychological/sociological aspects of dress, body image, and cultural identities. In addition to any ideas relating to purchasing, shopping, and the methods consumers construct identity. My paper deals with how the internet and social media has helped shape and destroy what society believes is and should be attractive, desired and emulated.
I feel extremely blessed to have had my paper proposal accepted and I look forward to giving this presentation, sharing both my research and personal experience in plus size fashion. It would be incredible if I could attend as it will be my first speaking opportunity at a national conference within my academic field. Moreover, this experience will be both aesthetically and intellectually stimulating as well as provide a fantastic chance to network with others more established in my field of study.
While I am working, I recently moved which makes it difficult to finance this venture or defray the costs. For this reason my goal is to raise enough money for travel and lodging. Below you will find the expenses outlined according to use and approximate cost.

Expenses
Registration: $175.00 for presenter (me)
$50.00 for guest (my mother a.k.a. travel companion and desinated driver)
Hotel accommodations: $173 per night plus taxes and fees (3 nights)
Travel: $310 - $346.00 round trip Delta Airlines (2 tickets)
Travel within New Orleans: $200.00 (rented car and gas)
Estimated total: $1,564.00
