Mobile Soup Kitchen for Kids

The Mobile Soup Kitchen for Kids was established by a very small group of volunteer individuals as an initial response to Typhoon Haiyan devastation that occured Nov. 2013 in the Philippines. It was the strongest storm in to make landfall in history. Over 7000 deaths resulted and millions displaced. Through a benefit concert that I  held along with the sponsorship of FILCOM CFL and OFASDA (Orlando Filipino American Seventh Day Adventist church) held last December titled "One Night, One Voice." We connected halfway around the globe - call it divine intervention.  A few hundred dollars initially sent to help out, paved the way to over 300 children being fed, enabled them to purchase a couple of stock pots and provide slippers to the kids.

Headed by Reynold de Vera, he and a few good samaritans headed to Tacloban (ground zero) with nothing but a couple of stock pots, donated rice and vegetables and started cooking right in the streets to feed starving children and families as help was very slow to arrive.  This is a very far cry from our typical westernized "soup kitchens" or "food trucks", it is as bare bones as it gets. With nothing but sometimes firewood to gather, this group relentlessly went from town to town to cook nutritious soup/porridge known as "arroz caldo" to help out.

A year later, this group's journey has been trully amazing as they had gone from "feeding projects" to sustainability efforts by planting vegetable gardens in schools and devastated areas in addition to educating community to be able to sustain themselves long after this tiny group of individuals moved to the next town or district. They are only able to move forward through donations.

Once again MSKK responded to the recent storm Ruby that destroyed parts of Eastern Samar in the Philippines, armed with their soup stock pots, bowls and cooking needs. The group has a page on facebook with so many photos for you to look at.

This time, we are trying to raise support for these kids and families to have a Christmas. Whether its through food or simple toys such as a ball or even crayons/books/coloring books/stuff animals, and providing nutritious meals, Rey and his team are trying to set up "pop up Christmas tents" to  bring the true meaning of Christmas to the less fortunate in the spirit of giving.

If you are able to spare $5, $10, $20 or more to bring the gift of Christmas and hope, we would be very humbled and these children  and families will be forever grateful.  In return, we will be posting pictures where your funds have gone via the MSKK (Mobile Soup Kitchen for Kids Facebook Page).

Thank you for taking the time to read. May your heart be touched as it had been mine.   I'll be happy to answer any of your questions and also connect you with Reynold De Vera, founder of MSKK.

God Bless!
