Helping Homeless Veterans

Vanessa Ewing is a Toledo native who always had a kind heart to help people. She is a given gift to help serve the community. Ms.Ewing's business is called Open Arms United were she opened the first two residential homes in the Sacramento community to help homeless veterans.  On Oct 1, 2014 was the establishment  of her project. She provides three square meals a day for veterans,  she  also provides transportation to and from their doctor’s appts and to the pharmacy to get their medications. Ms. Ewing was prompted to apply for the prop 41 after sharing her story with news anchor woman Bethany Couch over a racquet ball game. Ms. Ewing is trying to build a facility that will house 200 homeless veterans. This living program will be geared toward helping the veterans to learn how to apply/interview for employment which there will be several classrooms to help coach, mentor, and prepare them for the society. There will be drug and alcohol classes, parenting classes, stress management and behavior modification classes for the veterans to take while living in the facility. There will also be classes on how to open a checking account and learning how to save their money as she helps them have a smooth transition into society. Ms. Ewing's program is geared for the veterans to stay at the transitional living quarters for about 1-2 years. They could have an additional extension if they are having troubles with finding employment. They will have guarantee housing once they are out of the program. 

 

Please help Ms. Ewing in raising money to help her fulfill this wonderful project. The raising goal we are trying to reach is $80,000. The money goes toward furnishing this 27,280 square foot building for the veterans.  Ewing says, ''I just want to end Homelessness!''
