Mi Peregrinaje Peruano

Donation protected
Hola!

For the last 9 weeks I have been traveling about North America looking for something. I have been able to see some of nature's wonders and connect with so many different people. Due to the generosity of my family, friends (and sometimes even strangers!), I have had the freedom to gain experiences and new perspective. All the more reason to give something back.

I have been invited to just that by The Family of Mankind  and their founder Frank Bumpus. In January, I will be venturing to the Southern hemisphere to the remote village of Manchay , Peru to build 6 new homes for refugees originating from the Andes Mountains. This is a place where there is little access to fresh water and almost 50% of the population lives in conditions of absolute poverty.  I will be working for one month as part of the building team and as their primary translator!

I didn't plan to do this work but it feels like that the work had a plan for me. Over my Thanksgiving holiday in San Antonio, I bumped into my very first Spanish teacher. Senora Torres-Perry was passionate, quirky and always a favorite of mine. (Not just because she was the first person to insist I know the words to Selena's "Amor Prohibido".) She immediately recognized me and we got to speaking Spanish as if no time had passed. I explained to her that I left my job in New York, looking for something more.

"My mastery of Spanish is still a goal, but I feel like emersion is the only way that I will fully understand it. I have even considered doing some volunteer work abroad as a part of my little hiatus."  I said.

The next day she called to tell me about the Family of Mankind and her good friend Frank. His team had recently found themselves without a translator and she suggested me as a replacement. I was shocked. It all fit: the timing, the location, the work, and the connection.

With your contribution, I will be able to continue the cycle of giving while simutaneously strengthening my skills en Espanol. Every dollar donated will go to airfare, medical costs and daily living expenses for my time in Peru. Your generosity is appreciated beyond measure and no donation is too small.

Please, help me to help others, help me learn a language, and help the world by giving. (Por favor, ayúdame a ayudar a los demás, ayúdame a aprender un idioma, y ayudar al mundo dando)

Muchisimos gracias y mas,
Jade
