Resilience runs through my veins, and it not only comes from the Tamales, but it comes from who my mother Claudia is.

Education for me means being able to fly and spread my wings. This fall I took a leap of faith and transferred to Dominican University after receiving my associate’s from Morton College. Dominican values truth and love and their social justice beliefs align with my faith.

I'm a DACA recipient, which among other things, means I'm not eligible for federal financial aid and loans. I face the challenge of paying for college head-on with hard work and dedication. After I receive my degree,  God willing, I will help small businesses , organizations and institutions find solutions for their growth with an innovative approach.

Selling tamales and working part-time has helped me pay for some of my tuition, but it has not been enough. So, I have been compelled to find solutions by hosting fundraisers.

For my first semester at Dominican University, I received the Transfer Founder Scholarship of $9,000 for having a 3.0 GPA at my community college.
Furthermore, I earned the J. Arthur Schmitt Scholarship for $4,500 after writing a proposal for a community project where I bridge storytelling and financial literacy. I currently hold a 3.6 GPA.

Here is a breakdown of my tuition for a Bachelor of Arts (BA) with a concentration in International Business.

Balance for Fall 2018: $3,636.25

Tuition for Spring 2019: $12,103.25

Tuition for Fall & Spring 2019-2020: $32,964.00

I have these funds ready for my upcoming semester in fall 2019:

-Founder Scholarship for 2019-2020: $9,000.00

-Honor al Tamal Fund Raiser: $816.00

-Estrella Initiative Scholarship $700. I received this scholarship for being a peer mentor.

I’m asking you to please consider investing in my education. Funds will go to tuition, educational expenses including fees, books, class materials, taxes, and further educational endeavors.

TOTAL GOAL: $38,187
(If the goal is exceeded, additional donations would go to scholarship funds that support DACA students like me).

Any amount will be greatly appreciated. Blessings, peace, and love.
