INTACT Book

Donation protected
My name is Trish Causey, and I have been an activist since I was 13 years old. I have championed many causes over the years, and the cause that has my main focus is Intactivism, which seeks to end genital mutilation of children. While the pain of non-consensual genital mutilation is an important factor as to why this practice needs to end, the other issues surrounding this issue are equally important:

~ Human rights,
~ Ethics,
~ Body autonomy,
~ Self-determination,
~ Emotional and psychological harm,
~ Risk of complications,
~ Immediate and long-term health issues.

I am writing a book based on conversations with adult men who are intact -- who were not mutilated as children. The book is to be called "INTACT: Men As They Were Born to Be".

I posted a survey on my blog that covered 30 distinct areas of life physically, emotionally, and psychologically to learn first-hand the benefits of being normal, natural, and intact. Unfortunately for men in the U.S., other Anglophone countries, and areas influenced by American culture, routine genital mutilation still occurs thousands of times every single day. For Americans, there is a travesty of justice for half the population after they are born; boys are mutilated routinely, and yet, female genital mutilation is illegal in the U.S.

"INTACT: Men As They Were Born to Be" is a compilation of the data collected from my survey that was answered by men from all over the world. In collating the data, I have seen trends based on location and age that offer insight into how we can approach the genital mutilation debate here in the U.S. and abroad.

"INTACT: Men As They Were Born to Be " will feature special interviews with celebrities, intactivists, physicians, urologists, and psychologists who are all intactivists and support the cause. To help end the stigma of being intact, the book will feature artistic nudes to demystify the myths that perpetuate male genital mutilation on infants.

"INTACT: Men As They Were Born to Be" will be a 10" x 10" glossy hardbound book printed in the USA. A cross between a coffee-table art book and an activist art project, "INTACT: Men As They Were Born to Be" will available in over 90 major retail outlets as well as in ebook and mobile format.

The costs of the getting the book published:
~ Layout & Printing for hardbound books & ebooks through BookBaby.com: $4,000
~ Various skilled craftspersons to produce interior content, such as photography and graphic design for the book as well as the press kit's marketing materials: $5,000
~ Marketing materials (printing/ads): $1,500
~ Press Rep (3 months): $2,400
~ Legal: $1,200

I need to raise the money for this project now in order have it ready for publication in January. According to BookBaby.com, self-publishers fare much better waiting until after the holidays to release their books, since the October to December timeframe is dominated by the big publishers looking to boost year-end sales.

By having the funds now, I can:
~ Know I have the money when the book is ready,
~ Hire various people as needed to help with the creation of the content (photography) and legal needs to protect the work,
~ Book a Press Rep and print prep marketing materials so they are ready in January.
