Our healthy, strong and vibrant daughter, Ily Ringer (age 12), suddenly fell ill on April 6th, 2016. Ily has been very involved in volleyball, basketball, drama club, band, and track during her 7th grade year. Her energy and outgoing presence has always lifted the spirits of those around her and this sudden, severe illness has been devastating to our family.
On April 9th, 2016, Ily went into the hospital. She was diagnosed with the H1N1 flu virus as well as pneumonia. Due to the severity of her condition, she was placed in a medically induced acoma and put on a ventilator. An ECMO machine is being used to pump her heart and lungs and she is undergoing dialysis for her kidneys. Her lungs have been severely damaged by the infection and one has collapsed. Due to the risks involved with the ECMO treatment (which was necessary to save her life) blood clots formed in her right leg causing the tissue to die below her knee. On April 21st, 2016 Ily underwent surgery to have her leg amputated.
Ily is very sick. She is fighting but having a difficult time recovering. Her doctors have said that her case is rare and that this is one of the worse cases they have ever seen.
