Sea turtle protection in Nicaragua!

Hello from Proyecto Huella Central America!

We are dreaming!!!

We are growing!!!

We are planning!!!

We are taking action!!!

Thanks to the support shown for our beach clean-up efforts we are moving along Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula coast line km by km. With over 120 hours of kneeling down and sifting out as much of the tiny plastic debris as possible so far we have filled a lot of sacks. The difference we are making is crystal clear and we are continuing the push.

Next we have our sights set on illegal sea turtle poachers and we'll need your help!!!

Proyecto Huella is going to expand it's efforts to an isolated beach in Southern Nicaragua that is used for nesting by endangered black sea turtles. We will be establishing nightly patrols during the peak of this year's upcoming nesting season. Our patrols will collect valuable information about the numbers of turtles using the beach to nest. We will also be protecting the nests by hiding them and putting pressure on poachers who may try to illegally remove any eggs. Our goal is to develop a permanent project and expand to include relocating the turtle eggs into guarded nursery with protected hatchings and releases.

We will have a team doing patrols no matter how this fundraiser goes but we're hoping that with your support we can do this big, stay safe, and build something permanent!

Here's a bit of our "dream list" that we'd use the funding for:

-Rent for a "headquarters" to support the beach team

-a 4x4 vehicle to make our way through the muddy tropical rainy season roads

-fuel to keep the vehicle on the road

-cell phones, radios, solar chargers, headlamps and flashlights to keep our team productive and safe

-waterproof camping and rain gear

-basic first aid supplies

-basic tools

PH is grassroots motion towards supporting and generating vital conservation and justice action. We have been acting quietly on a small scale for about two years and we have seen some wonderful accomplishments. Assisting animal shelters, care for homeless domestic animals, endangered species conservation work, support for campaigns and protests, food share programs, water rights protection, skill sharing, and beach clean-ups are a few things we've been up to.
